RESCHS PILSENER BEER REVIEW

It felt a little bit like 70s Aussie Summer nostalgia jumped the shark with Scomo’s butchering of April Sun In Cuba earlier this year, but there are certain summer stalwarts that remain timeless, even in the face of such an assault on the senses. Enter the Reschs Pilsener - a brew that evokes the smell of sunscreen on a fluoro towel, pub carpet that’s never been cleaned of the decades of cigarette smoke and spilled Lager, and the sound of Dragon’s second best song (now that the best one is in cultural recovery for the next little while). It’s one of a dying breed of beers you can still buy in a tightly wrapped trident of long-necks and we’re here for that.

One of the inspirations for our own Another Lager, Reschs classic Silver Bullet, as it’s affectionately known, is about as classic tasting a beer as you’ll ever find. Perfect with a parmy or a packet of Benson & Hedges (don’t smoke in 2022, it’s gross). It’s grassy and it’s grainy and pours beautifully from can or tap, with an oaky body that is unmistakably beer. It’s about as far away as you can get from a double-smoked sour cherry porter as you can find yourself, and sometimes that’s what the palette desires. Long may it continue to live in the beermats and barstools of our favourite pubs for many years to come.

Pair it with - A Chiko Roll.
