NORMAL PEOPLE EPISODE 3: MAANYUNG

We’re finishing out a big year of Normal Stories with a film very close to our hearts. The third instalment of our Normal People film series focuses on our dear friend and Heaps Normal family member Maanyung - opening up on his relationship with Country, culture, language, and himself.

Language really is the cornerstone of culture. Values, rituals and histories are kept alive through a shared dialogue that, in the case of Australia’s First Peoples, spans tens of thousands of years.

Maanyung, a proud Gumbaynggirr and Yaegl singer-songwriter, is using music and storytelling to keep his language alive. We teamed up with Maanyung and NiceFilm Co. to tell Maanyung’s own story - one that speaks to his deep connection to Country, his passion for the continuation of his culture and language, and his personal mental health challenges. Maanyung’s story is a version of normal that many of us can personally relate to. We hope you enjoy it.
