UNDER THE BAR - THE CARRINGTON

Interview and intro by Carolina Pasini | Photos by Yeah Rad.

Introducing our newest series, Under The Bar, where we highlight iconic venues in the food and beverage world that are shaking things up in the hospo scene.

Nestled on leafy Bourke St in Eora’s Surry Hills, The Carrington is a perennial favourite for inner-city locals looking for a cool, beer-filled oasis. From tiled walls and wooden floors to Annabel Osborne’s dog portraits, The Carro is redefining the pub experience, combining character with culinary excellence.

We followed Tahnee, bartender and all-round Carro' legend on a food-focused chat filled with calamari, misheard lyrics and dog food for humans

CP | What do you like most about working at The Carro?

T | It has to be the regulars. All of our guests know our team and we all take care of each other in a way. It's like a family thing.

CP | What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen or heard while working?

T | If I were to pick from all the funny stories we have, it was when a guy came up to the bar and asked for the rice and veg, which is from our dog's menu. So the staff then checked with him saying 'Hey this is a dog meal, are you sure this is what you want?' and he said 'Yes, that's what I want.' When the order came out, we looked around the venue and there weren't any dogs at the bar. We went to give it to him and the food does comes out in a dog bowl and he turned to us and said 'Oh that's what you mean by dog food'. We didn't see him having the actual food, but he could (haha).

CP | What dish would you pair a Normie with at The Carro?

T | I reckon any of our shared plates are meant to be paired with a beer. My go-to would be a big calamari plate.

CP | Describe The Carrington in three words

T | Cozy, giggly and loyal.

CP | What’s your favourite drinking song?

T | I have lots of favourite ones, but at The Carro is probably 'She Can't Love You' by Chemise because if you listen to it, it sounds like she's saying 'Chicken Burger'.

The Carrington is located at 178 565 Bourke St, Surry Hills - Eora/Sydney
